When You Find Yourself Overgiving or People Pleasing

Overgiving and people pleasing often come from a good place. You care, you want to help, and you want to keep the peace. But when your needs consistently come last, it can leave you feeling drained, resentful, or disconnected from yourself. It’s okay to pause and notice where your energy is going, and whether you’re giving from fullness or from pressure.

Reflection Prompts

  • When do I put others’ needs before my own?

  • Where in my life do I give more than I receive?

  • What makes it hard for me to say no?

  • How do I feel after I help others? Energized or drained?

  • What boundaries would feel supportive?

  • What would balanced support look like?

  • How can I honor my needs today?

  • What would it look like to give myself the same care I give to others?

Practices to Try Now

  • Make a short list of what you need this week, not what others need from you

  • Do one thing today just for you, without explaining or justifying it

  • Pause before responding to requests and give yourself at least 10 seconds to see how you feel

  • Practice saying, “Let me think about it” instead of answering right away

Ways to Use Prompts

These prompts are here to support self-reflection and awareness. You can move through them in whatever way feels most helpful to you. You might choose to write your thoughts in a journal, use your phone’s Notes app, or simply reflect quietly in your mind. Some people also like to explore these prompts through voice notes or supportive AI tools for additional perspective. If you’re a member, you can also save your entries in 'My Journal' to keep everything in one place. Use them to check in with yourself, notice patterns, clarify what you are feeling, and understand what feels true for you in the moment. Move through these prompts at your own pace and in the way that feels most supportive for you.
