When You're Feeling Like an Imposter

Feeling like an imposter can make you question your abilities, feel like you’re not “enough,” or like you’re just waiting to be exposed, even when you’ve worked hard and earned your place. Doubt can still creep in and you might feel like you don’t belong or worry that others will “figure you out.” These feelings are more common than most people realize. Noticing these thoughts without judging them can help you regain perspective.

Reflection Prompts

  • When do I feel most like I don’t belong?

  • What am I afraid others might think about me?

  • What situations make me doubt myself?

  • What evidence shows that I do belong here?

  • What have I worked hard to achieve?

  • How would I describe my strengths to someone else?

  • What feedback have I received that I tend to minimize?

  • How can I support myself instead of criticizing myself?

Practices to Try Now

  • Write down 3 things you’ve accomplished or skills or experiences you have

  • Re-read a positive message, review, or feedback

  • Give yourself one genuine compliment

  • Remind yourself growth takes time and progress matters over perfection

Ways to Use Prompts

These prompts are here to support self-reflection and awareness. You can move through them in whatever way feels most helpful to you. You might choose to write your thoughts in a journal, use your phone’s Notes app, or simply reflect quietly in your mind. Some people also like to explore these prompts through voice notes or supportive AI tools for additional perspective. If you’re a member, you can also save your entries in 'My Journal' to keep everything in one place. Use them to check in with yourself, notice patterns, clarify what you are feeling, and understand what feels true for you in the moment. Move through these prompts at your own pace and in the way that feels most supportive for you.
